One day gone and already an overwhelming response
I kicked things off yesterday by emailing (pestering) all my friends and family about Fill The Dams in the hope that at least two or three of them would pass the message on to their charitable (and rich!) friends and colleagues. And whilst no more litres were ordered (on top of my own $60 contribution), I was inundated with well-wishing emails giving some great advice on promoting the site and improving its credibility.
Browsing site traffic statistics every quarter hour or so things got off to an expectedly gradual start - 4 readers, 6 readers 9 readers - but after leaving the computer for a shave and change of clothes in preparation for work I returned to see that 127 readers had passed by. WHAT THE?!?!
Unfortunately I had to rush off to my telephone interviewing gig and spent the next four hours wondering who the heck spammed their work email directory with Fill The Dams promotion! Later on I found that the traffic spike came from social networking site StumbleUpon, where I had “stumbled” Fill The Dams just a few hours previous. It just goes to show the viral nature of the Internet and the power of online social networking.
You guys can all help out further by clicking the “Bookmark” button that can be found at the end of every post. Every last click will help drive Fill The Dams up the charts on social networking and news aggregation community websites. Tomorrow I plan to widen the net by contacting influential bloggers and popular websites in the Australian conservation/environment niche, so hopefully things will continue on strongly from here.
Thanks again for all the initial support and remember to keep forwarding the site to your friends and colleagues!
