Drought-proofing grassroots footy
Whilst getting over the disappointment of yet another false promise by the weathermen (no sound and light show to be found in Melbourne), I was gladdened to read that Jonathon from SaveFooty.com gave a nice little plug for Fill The Dams on his blog.
I have followed SaveFooty for the last couple of months and they have come a long way in achieving their vision of having a water tank at every rural oval and a fundraising system to help footy clubs threatened by drought. Being a footy fanatic (and long-suffering Melbourne supporter), I love hearing about all the hard work that goes on at the grassroots level, particularly when it involves Victoria. Sorry interstaters - non-Victorian clubs are currently taking 5 of the top 6 positions on the AFL ladder. We need a miracle!
I saw a rock hard grass-less rural oval on a trip last month - for once the Telstra Dome surface seems like paradise in comparison. If you’re into Aussie sport and the environment (who isn’t?), visit SaveFooty and help keep our kids out of the gym.
Contributions on Fill the Dams have just reached the $100 milestone (yay!), and I’ve just seen a new order come through tonight. Looking forward to a big week.
