Fill The Dams on the backburner
Have been absent here for more than a week, mainly due to other work committments and a Queen’s Birthday getaway that has put Fill The Dams on the backburner for the time being. Unfortunately little in the way of news and exciting updates has happened since I last posted, but I don’t want to delay this next post any longer than I have to!
It was a fair disappointment that the press release went largely unnoticed by the local and online press. Without feedback, it’s a little difficult to pinpoint the exact reason I couldn’t catch their attention. Perhaps the killer hook was missing, the subject matter isn’t appealing or the sudden downpur (including insane flooding in New South Wales) and onset of winter is just plain old bad timing. Received a curt “we’ll pass” from an MX reporter, and another journo responded that she didn’t have time to read it.
Will just have to dust myself off and come up with a Plan B, and hopefully we’ll start to see Fill The Dams gain some legs. One suggestion given to me was to phone and pester journalists to take on the story, but I don’t have access to any direct lines. Any well connected folks out there able to help with hooking me up?
I can definitely see a stroke of luck just around the corner

Thanks for posting a comment on our blog which lead to me finding yours. Isn’t it so cool how blogging works? “I can definitely see a stroke of luck just around the corner” Glad you’re thinking positive. Also, thanks for putting us on your blog roll.
Andy keep working at it.
A thought. I read through the site and my initial reaction, I admit very Australian, was can I trust these guys to really donate the money. A couple of ideas that might spur things along.
* Allow for Paypal donations, get yourselves registered and validated with them as this will help build some trust.
* Look for some industry group who could give you some “certification” to gain leverage.
* Provide more About Us info on the site, let us see who you are.
* Look to establish an oversight/advisory board and get a few high profile people to help you out.
* Blog more, daily, even multiple times a day! (This is hard work)
* Get yourself interviewed either by mainstream media or on a podcast, http://thepodcastnetwork.com have a couple of environment shows, if all else fails ask Cam Reilly to interview you himself.
If you have tried all this, good work and sorry my ideas will now seem like I am preaching to the choir!
Thanks for adding a comment and link on my site about the unecessary detentions of LEGAL immigrants in Australia. I never thought things could be worse somewhere other than America — well, excluding real wacko places, which America may be becoming — but it’s an eye-opener to see that these things happen in Australia too.
